Jerger hosts Fairy Tale Ball

Feb. 12—THOMASVILLE — If you drove past Jerger Elementary on Friday afternoon, you may have mistaken it for a the most magical place on earth. That afternoon, pre-K students and their moms/special guests entered the Jerger gym, decorated with castle walls, lights and photo-ops. Kids and moms alike dressed as characters from their favorite fairy tales as a way to cap off a week of studying fairy tales.

"We call it magical Moments with Mom," said Pre-K teacher Hannah Edwards. "We study Fairy Tales all week and end the week with the ball."

According to Principal Emily Newman, this is only Jerger's third year offering the special event.

"It was attempt to get more creative than the typical Muffins with Mom," she explained. "That same year, we began offering Dogs and Dads, which is a pep rally that dads are invited to, along with our Varsity Bulldogs team."

Both events have provided for positive interactions with parents and memories to last a lifetime.

Pre-K students paraded through he halls of Jerger Elementary, all dressed up in their crowns and dresses, as other students cheered them on. Then, each class was announced as they entered the gym to greet their moms, many of which were dressed up as well.

Opportunities for fun and cute photos littered the gym floor as kids danced with their moms and enjoyed a fun filled afternoon. It's important for these students to be able to share this fun moment with their moms to build that relationship.

"At Jerger, we're all about building relationships," Edwards said. "So, this just kind of brings in the relationship aspect of getting the community and our parents more involved in the school."

Newman applauded the Pre-K teachers' efforts in making the event a success, explaining they collaborated with the Thomasville Scholar's Academy Drama program to collect props and costumes to make the event as memorable as possible for their young students.
