Jerger named Daviess County Fair Queen

Jun. 28—ELNORA — The Daviess County Fair has crowned a new queen. Audrey Jerger, 17, Washington, was selected during the annual queen contest.

Jerger, a senior at Washington Catholic, was surprised by her selection.

"When they said my name, I could not even believe it," she said. "It was crazy and seeing all the people that were there to support me was wonderful. I just couldn't believe it."

Jerger says she is excited about one of the big weekend events.

"I am going to be at the monster truck show," said Jerger. "I think that will be fun."

Jerger has been active in 4-H in Daviess County. She is a nine-year member and on track to become a 10-year member. Her favorite activities include scrapbooking, floriculture and child development.

Once the Daviess County Fair is over Jerger will reign over the Daviess County 4-H Fair and will have a number of other activities.

"I will be in parades around town and the communities," she said. "I can also attend other fairs and wear my crown and sash. I might also be asked to take part in ribbon cutting ceremonies, and other community events. I am so excited to take part in all of those things."

Jerger calls being the fair queen something that is unexpected in her life.

"I would never have thought I could do this and be Miss Daviess County," she said. "I think it kind of sends a message, especially to young girls, that you can be anything you set your mind to."

Jerger is the daughter of Jennifer and Jeremy Jerger of Washington.

The queen's court consists of first runner-up Maggie Lee, second runner-up Ellie Smith and third runner up Daysha Haage. Lee was voted Miss Congeniality and besides being named queen Jerger received the People's Choice Award.

In the first ever Junior Miss Queen contest Alyssa Mozingo was the winner. First runner-up was Tavie Potts and second runner-up Priesley Armes. Mozingo was named people's choice winner while Armes was named Miss Congeniality in the Junior Miss contest.

The Daviess County Fair runs through Saturday night at the fairgrounds in Elnora.
