MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Jerry Carl says he is running on his record as he fights to keep his District 1 congressional seat. Carl is facing current District 2 representative Barry Moore in a rare battle of incumbent congressmen.

Carl says he has been an effective, conservative member of Congress in a low-key manner, unlike his opponent.

“I’m a doer, he’s a talker,” Carl said. “I’m not one to talk an issue to death. I think we get enough of that in Washington. Everyone just wants to talk, talk, talk and they wind up shouting over one another. I’m just a doer. I try to find a solution and do it. I think that’s the biggest difference between he and I.”

Barry Moore says he is the more conservative candidate in District 1

Carl is from Mobile. He served eight years in the Mobile County Commission before being elected to Congress in 2020.

In Washington he says he’s focused on securing the border, reducing the deficit, supporting law enforcement, and securing funding for district projects.

“When I can put some money together in a grant program and get a radio system for Escambia County, or I can get a road paved in Baldwin County for a small municipality,  or I can help with a port project, I’m going to do it,” Carl said. “My opponent does not. He doesn’t believe in doing that.”

For Mobile-Baldwin, Carl says he will continue to fight for funding for the new I-10 Bridge. In the Wiregrass, Carl says he’s looking forward to supporting Fort Novosel, formerly known as Fort Rucker.

“Novosel is the second biggest employer south of Montgomery,” he said. “So everyone in Enterprise, in Dothan, is affected by Novosel in some way. And it has not had a good representative in quite a while.”
