Jerry Jones loves to talk. For a World Series ring, he should listen to Chris Young | Opinion

Always looking for a camera

I read Clarence E. Hill Jr.’s column on Jerry Jones saying he’s envious of the Texas Rangers making it to the World Series. (Oct. 27, 3B, “Cowboys owner Jones says he’s envious of the Rangers”) I wondered if Jones ever reflects on how frequently he has seen or heard Rangers general manager Chris Young on TV or radio programs compared with Jones’ never-ending demand for a camera and microphone.

When you look at the difference in how the two teams have performed over recent years, he should.

Stand up to Texas white supremacists

I was disturbed to see reports of neo-Nazis visiting Fort Worth, and I’m further unsettled by recent reporting in the Texas Tribune that establishes Fort Worth as a center of white-supremacist hatred in Texas. The offices of Pale Horse Strategies, a right-wing consulting firm in Tarrant County, have played host to peddlers of conspiracy and hatred. This has included hosting a meeting involving one of the most influential white supremacists in the nation.

I believe in the First Amendment. Accordingly, the residents and elected officials in Fort Worth should use their own rights to free speech to make it clear that our city does not welcome white-supremacist ideology, no matter if it comes wrapped in a swastika armband or a suit and tie.

Nazis in public are a sad sight

It’s truly sad, in a state so diverse, to have people in Nazi attire openly dining in a restaurant. As a victim of racial bias, I moved to Texas for a better and safer life. I will not patronize Torchy’s Tacos moving forward. Thank you for your covering the story.

The media are the cause of racism

Haley Taylor Schlitz wrote that the Nazis in Fort Worth had “their presence largely unchallenged and their hate unrepudiated.” (Oct. 29, 4C, “As Nazis dine in Fort Worth, hate threatens civil-rights wins”) That sounds like something that would come from as activist.

I’ve lived my entire life in Texas, and I’ve never seen anyone wearing swastikas or proclaiming to be a Nazi. This is just one more attempt to stir up racism, and if the media would stop doing that, racism would fade into history.

School choice cheats our students

So-called “school choice” is nothing but the rich getting rich at the expense of the poor. The government requires education for all children, so it funds public education. Private education was developed primarily for religious reasons. Many private schools have restrictions on who can attend. That leaves private schools built strictly for profit for most students not in current private schools, and those are poorly rated.

A disgusting view of MAGA

The loathsome “Who chose House speaker: Republicans or Trump?” by Francis Wilkinson of Bloomberg Opinion (Oct. 27, 15A) reflects progressives’ disgusting vision of Make America Great Again patriots. Not only does Wilkinson disparage the GOP, but he also besmirches Republican members of the House, their leaders, the former president and the 74 million Americans who voted for Donald Trump in 2020.

The fact is the GOP has such a deep leadership team that it can select a speaker after passing on several outstanding candidates. It proves the GOP is willing to elect a candidate vetted and supported by all its caucus.

Suggesting that one person has such a stranglehold on the GOP that he can control all its members is sophomoric and naive. It also reflects the disdain the left has for today’s GOP.
