Jerry Stiller, NYC Actor And Comedian, Has Died: Son Ben Stiller

NEW YORK CITY — Jerry Stiller, the comedy icon who starred as a surly, spit-take funny dad on “Seinfeld,” has died, his son, actor Ben Stiller, announced Monday.

Stiller, 92, died of natural causes, his son said.

"He was a great dad and grandfather, and the most dedicated husband," Stiller tweeted Monday morning. "He will be greatly missed. Love you Dad."

While "Seinfeld" fans may best remember Stiller as George Costanza's father Frank, his career was marked by the performances he gave with his family.

Stiller's career began in the 1950s when he and his wife, actress Anne Meara, performed their schtick 36 times on the "The Ed Sullivan Show" in the 1950s.

And Stiller frequently appeared on the silver screen with his son Ben in “There’s Something About Mary," "Zoolander," and "The Heartbreak Kid," among others.

More recently, Stiller had a recurring role as Arthur Spooner on the "King of Queens."

Stiller lost his wife in 2015 after about 62 years of marriage.

New Yorkers and fellow actors were quick to respond with messages of condolences after his son Ben posted his message.

"Sending you love, Ben," wrote "Hamilton" composer Lin-Manuel Miranda. "What a giant. So grateful for him, and Anne, and you."

"He was a lovely man - always so kind to me," tweeted Hank Azaria. "Condolences Ben."
