New Jersey lottery ticket wins $1 million in Monday's Powerball as jackpot hits $41M
One lucky New Jersey lottery player won a $1 million in Monday night's Powerball.
The winning ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven on Route 35 in Holmdel, according to the New Jersey Lottery.
In addition to the NJ ticket, one ticket sold in Spring Valley, California also matched all five white balls to win $222,615. California bases it's prizes on actual tickets sold in the state, whereas other states award $1 million as a second-tier prize.
No won matched all six balls to win the jackpot so the grand prize will increase to $41 million for Wednesday's drawing with a cash option of $21.2 million, according to the Powerball website.
The jackpot was last won on July 19 when a lottery player in California won the $1.08 billion jackpot - the third largest Powerball ever.
Meanwhile, the Mega Millions jackpot is at $820 million for Tuesday's drawing with a cash option of $422 million, according to the Mega Millions website.

How do I play Powerball?
The cost is $2 per ticket, but you can add the Power Play for $1, which will increase the amount of your potential prize up to five times the original prize (except for the jackpot and Match 5). There is also a 10x Power Play possibility when the jackpot is less than $150 million.
Each player selects five numbers from 1 to 69 for the white balls and one number from 1 to 26 for the red Powerball. However, you can also have the lottery machine generate a quick pick ticket with random numbers for you.
