New Jersey man accused of firing shots during reported domestic dispute with woman in Erie

An Erie man charged by city police with taking a gun from the scene of a fatal shooting in July is now accused of being involved in a Jan. 9, 2023, shooting in the 200 block of Poplar Street.

A New Jersey man is facing felony aggravated assault and other charges after Erie police accused him of twice firing a gun during an altercation with a woman in the city on Wednesday.

Kiwan A. Cirino, 27, of East Orange, New Jersey, was jailed on $75,000 bond after he was arraigned Thursday morning on two counts of aggravated assault, felony counts of possession of a firearm prohibited and carrying a firearm without a license, and several misdemeanor charges in an incident that was first reported shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of West 32nd Street.

Erie police said Cirino was involved in a domestic incident with a woman in the area of West 22nd and Plum streets when he reportedly produced a gun and fired one shot before jumping in a vehicle and leaving. The woman got into a vehicle and began following Cirino, and when they reached the area of West 32nd and Cascade streets Cirino reportedly fired another shot before fleeing, police reported Thursday.

Cirino fled the area on foot and was eventually apprehended by Erie police in the area of the Liberty Plaza, Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said. Police recovered a gun from Cirino's vehicle, he said.

No one was reported injured in the shooting.
