Jersey RNLI rescues four people after rising tide

RNLI lifeboats had to rescue four people who got into difficulty with the rising tide off the south coast of Jersey on Thursday.

While on an evening exercise, the St Helier inshore lifeboat was tasked by Jersey Coastguard to Elizabeth Castle, where two people had been stranded.

A second tasking was later received for two more people stranded at Green Island, RNLI Jersey said.

The RNLI said all four individuals were "safely returned to shore".

It said: "Upon arrival, the crew located the stranded individuals [at Elizabeth Castle] with the assistance of the Castle Guardian.

"Following a swift assessment of their condition, the two individuals were safely brought ashore by the lifeboat.

"As the incident concluded, a second tasking was received for two individuals stranded at Green Island.

"The St Helier inshore lifeboats made best speed to the location and the individuals were safely returned to shore by the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service."

The RNLI reminded people walking on the coast to check the tide times and carry a mobile phone.
