These New Jersey schools will march in a 'Day of Action' on Friday. Here's why

Students from at least nine high schools and colleges will participate in a New Jersey Students Day of Action on Friday, the latest in a series of youth-led actions in support of Palestinians.

The marches are being organized "to call for a cease-fire, end of Israeli occupation in Palestine, and for New Jersey to stop funding genocide," organizers wrote online. The events are happening at parks, outside town halls and near a Starbucks, a company that has faced a boycott in connection with the conflict.

The conflict in Israel and Gaza has sparked a level of activism not seen in years, especially among young Americans, who have held marches, vigils, sit-ins and other actions to protest the war. Protesters have also blocked traffic and disrupted elected officials' fundraisers, election rallies and speeches. Community members and local organizations have hosted rallies and counterprotests to support Israel.

In November, students at West Orange and Teaneck high schools held walkouts to protest Israeli bombardment in Gaza and support Palestinians. Teaneck Schools Superintendent Andre Spencer, who faced criticism over the walkout, said the rally planned for Friday was not approved or authorized by the school district.
