New Jersey Turnpike tolls, Garden State Parkway rates increasing in 2024

The cost of traveling through New Jersey will get more expensive next year.

Tolls will increase 3% on New Jersey's Garden State Parkway and the NJ Turnpike starting Jan. 1, 2024, the fourth increase since 2020. This year, tolls went up 3% as well.

Unlike other toll authorities in the state, the NJ Turnpike Authority raises toll rates in order to meet an annual budget for capital expenses. For 2024, the Turnpike Authority approved a $2.6 billion budget, which represents an increase of about $100 million over the 2023 budget.

The budget includes funding for 44 new employees in maintenance and engineering. And there are also plans to expand services to E-ZPass customers.
