New Jersey weather: Winter advisory calls for up to 6 inches of snow

The northernmost tip of New Jersey could see as much as 6 inches of snow Monday and Tuesday as a wintry system moves across the state, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow will begin late Monday afternoon and continue overnight through northern New Jersey, according to the weather service.

Along the Jersey Shore and central New Jersey, a wintry mix will turn to rain by the evening hours and leave little to no accumulation, said Dean Iovino, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

However, in Sussex, Warren, Morris and western Passaic counties, residents could see 4 to 6 inches of snow, he said.

A snowstorm is likely to drop at least 3 inches of snow across northern New Jersey.

No accumulation is expected in southern New Jersey.

The snow should end by Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Conditions will be calm through the middle of the week, but another system will move over New Jersey on Friday, Iovino said.

It is too early to tell whether Friday's storm will bring rain or snow, he said.

"That's our next next thing to focus on," he said.
