Who is Jesse Rutherford? Billie Eilish splits with 31-year-old boyfriend after less than a year

Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford have called it quits after less than a year of dating, according to Page Six.

The 21-year-old singer’s rep told the publication that the pair has “split amicably and remain good friends”, shutting down any speculation that cheating was involved in the break-up.

Rutherford, who is 11 years’ Eilish’s senior, was last seen with the Bad Guy singer at Coachella music festival in April.

The pair was first romantically linked in October 2022 and went Instagram-official the following month.

Eilish opened up about her relationship with Rutherford at the time, in a Vanity Fair interview, saying: “I’m really excited and I’m really happy about it.”

“I managed to get my way to a point in my life where I not only was known by a person that I thought was the hottest f***ing f***er alive, but pulled his ass.

“Jesse Rutherford, everyone! I pulled his ass, all me! I did that s***. I locked that m*********** down.”

So who is Rutherford, and why has their relationship sparked controversy?

Who is Jesse Rutherford?

Jesse Rutherford, 31, is a singer from California. He is best known for being the lead singer of the band The Neighbourhood, alongside Jeremy Freedman, Zach Abels, and Mikey Margot.

The alternative rock band’s biggest hit is Sweater Weather, but they’re also known for hits like Daddy Issues and Softcore. Their debut album was released in 2013 when Rutherford was 21.

Rutherford has also released two solo albums “&” (2017) and GARAGEB& (2019).

He was also a child actor and appeared in the movies Bundy, and Life or Something Like It, in 2002.

Rutherford dated influencer Devon Carlson, 28, from 2016 until 2021, and in 2019, they were named “2019’s most 2019 couple”, by GQ. The couple met at a local mall.

Rutherford has long been into fashion and revealed that he began shopping at Hot Topic when he was “inappropriately young”.

He told GQ: “I used to change my clothes five times a day when I was seven or eight years old."

As a teenager, he worked for Vans, Journeys, Urban Outfitters, and Active skate shop.

He recently began dating Billie Eilish, with whom he attended the LACMA Art + Film Gala in November, in their red-carpet debut as a couple.

Rutherford has been criticised for his relationship with Eilish, who is 11 years his junior. However, the pair hit back at critics with their Halloween costumes last year, which saw Eilish dressed as a baby and Rutherford dressed as an old man.
