The gift of motherhood has totally transformed Jessie J's approach to life, it seems.

Seller of over 20 million singles worldwide, the 'Price Tag' hitmaker gave birth to her son Sky Safir Cornish Colman back in May following a miscarriage several years ago.

Now, after close to two decades as an artist under Republic Records, Jessie (real name Jessica Cornish) is finally acting on her instincts and has severed all ties with the major label.

In a video uploaded to Instagram, she told the camera: "I wanted this to be my statement, whatever that means, so you can see my face and hear my tone, and there be no muddy water - no miscommunication.

"So after 17 years, I have decided to leave Republic Records. I was about six months pregnant when I made this decision and Monte and Avery Lipman, and Jason Flomm have been so gracious and kind in supporting my decision and letting me go.

"It's been honestly the most amazing high-and-low ride of my life being signed to Republic and I just feel so grateful that I've got to experience being signed to the best record label in the world," continued the singer as she walked through a park.

"I just have to be honest with who I am and what I want from my career now, and how I feel being signed doesn't sit with that anymore. Some people won't get it, some people will, but for me life is about making decisions that sit with the energy that you want your life to have.

"If things don't fit into that, then you move on."

Jessie reiterated that there's no drama attached to this outcome, and even suggested that her zodiac sign of Aries - categorised as fiery, driven and passionate - came into play.

Before wrapping things up, the one-time coach on The Voice Kids UK pointed out: "Now I've had a baby there's just no stopping me.

"Something happens when you have a baby where you just give zero f****."

Claude Kelly, co-writer on a number of Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston tracks, was one of the first industry faces to congratulate her, writing: "So proud of you. The honesty and transparency will help so many upcoming artists who need to make big decisions like this for themselves. And the best is STILL yet to come!"
