Maybe think twice before spending your entire paycheck on that Ohio lottery ticket on the second Friday of May, 2022.

We also suggest avoiding: All the casinos, that Cleveland Browns will make the playoff bet and, we can't stress this enough, don't go to that summer camp that day either.

Really, really avoid that summer camp trip on that Friday.

Because that Friday is May 13, 2022.

Friday the 13th: Why are you afraid of Friday the 13th? Experts weigh in

Things to do: A fan of horror films? 'FireStarter' opens, and 'Friday the 13th' series also playing

Or better known as "Friday the 13th," the day many call "the most unlucky day on the calendar." It's so unlucky that the very untrue story of Jason Voorhees' really bad summer camp experience was made into one of the most successful horror movie franchises ever.

Here's some reason why that date sticks out.

Why is Friday the 13th considered unlucky?

Jesus.

Yes, the superstition dates back to Christianity. USA Today wrote in 2015:

Fear is likely rooted in Christianity. Jesus was crucified on a Friday and ever since the day has been associated with "general ill omen," Michael Bailey, a history professor at Iowa State University who specializes in the origins of superstitions, told USA TODAY Network.

In the middle ages, weddings were not held on Friday and you never wanted to travel on a Friday.

The "13" number is in relation to the guest at the last supper the night Jesus was killed. Judas is considered the 13th guest.

When did Friday the 13th begin?

According to USA Today, the superstition's origin is not clear. There are no mentions of Friday the 13th before the 19th century.

Stuart Vyse, a psychology professor at Connecticut College told USA Today:

"It would be hard to find someone in the U.S. that doesn't know about Friday the 13th. We are all taught about it at a young age."

What is the medical term for people who fear Friday the 13th?

It's called "paraskevidekatriaphobia."

How many 'Friday the 13th' movies are there?

Ah yes, a Friday the 13th tradition: binging "Friday the 13th" movies.

There are 12 "Friday the 13th" movies. Why the industry is waiting for a 13th "Friday the 13th" movie to be made is a question for a Hollywood insider. In 2009, a reboot of the story happened and that has been the last "Friday the 13th" movie made.

'Friday the 13th' movies in order

If you want to binge all 12 and do it in the order that they were released, here's the list:

  • "Friday the 13th," 1980

  • "Friday the 13th Part 2," 1981

Who is Jason Voorhees?

The original "Friday the 13th" movie is a film about bullying and a mother's love, so perhaps more fans should have been rooting for Jason and Pamela Voorhees. Jason was Pamela's son who drowned at Camp Crystal Lake. Pamela is the mother who stalks the camp counselors who let it happen.

If you're confused by how Jason fits in, watch the movie and stay to the very end.
