Jets DL Williams addresses trade speculation

New York Jets defensive lineman Leonard Williams told reporters after Sunday's win over the Dallas Cowboys he wasn't aware of any trade speculation surrounding him prior to this weekend.

ESPN reported Sunday morning that Williams has drawn interest from multiple teams leading up to the Oct. 29 trade deadline. The report said the Jets are not interested in trading Williams, but a later ESPN report said New York could be open to it for the right price.

"I wouldn't say it makes me uneasy," Williams said Sunday about the uncertainty surrounding his future. "You see the best players in the league get traded. It's not like a personal thing. It's just the way business is."

Williams, the sixth overall pick in 2015, is in the final year of his rookie contract, and it's unclear if the Jets have interest in re-signing him. New York drafted defensive tackle Quinnen Williams third overall this past April after re-signing defensive end Ryan Anderson in March. They also extended defensive tackle Steve McLendon on Saturday.

Williams had one quarterback hit Sunday, giving him four hits and no sacks through five games this season. He had a total of 17 sacks and 85 hits over his first four seasons, playing in all 64 games over that span. He also has yet to record a tackle for loss this season after notching 32 through four years.
