The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee will host a lecture with bestselling author, scholar, and community leader Steve Leder on April 20 at Temple Sinai, 4631 S. Lockwood Ridge Road, in Sarasota.

In his talk, “From Paralyzed to Empowered: How You Can Make a Difference at Home and for Israel,” Rabbi Leder will share his personal story, discuss the current situation in Israel, rising antisemitism and why that should be important to all Americans.

Doors open for light refreshments at 6:30 p.m., with the program to take place from 7-8:30 p.m.

“Steve is a compass for our disorienting times," said Shep Englander, CEO of the Jewish Federation. "He brings us powerful new ways to see what matters most. He teaches us how to shape the ethical legacy we give our children and grandchildren. He is disarmingly honest, completely relatable, and a lot of fun. “

Twice named to Newsweek’s top 10 most influential Rabbis in America, Leder has appeared on "CBS Sunday Morning," "Good Morning America," "The Today Show" and other news outlets. He is Senior Rabbi of Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Los Angeles, which serves approximately 2,400 families at three campuses.

Leder received a degree in writing and graduated cum laude from Northwestern University. After studying at Trinity College, Oxford University, he received a master’s degree in Hebrew Letters in 1986 and Rabbinical Ordination in 1987 from Hebrew Union College. He is the author of five books, including "The Extraordinary Nature of Ordinary Things," "More Money Than God," "More Beautiful Than Before: How Suffering Transforms Us," "For You When I'm Gone," and "The Beauty of What Remains."

Leder also has published essays in Reform Judaism, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, TIME magazine, and The Jewish Journal.
