JHS students named semifinalists in Coca-Cola Scholars program

Nov. 3—Joplin High School seniors Alexandra Carson and Aidan Koch have been named semifinalists for the 2024 Coca-Cola Scholars program, moving to the next round of the selection process to become possible Coca-Cola Scholars and receive $20,000 college scholarships, the Joplin School District announced Friday.

Carson and Koch will next complete the second round of applications, which includes essays, a recommendation and a transcript. An independent selection committee will review the applications and recommend 250 regional finalists in early January to take part in online interviews.

A total of 150 Coca-Cola Scholars will be named in late February to receive $20,000 college scholarships and attend the Coca-Cola Scholars weekend in April in Atlanta.

"We are incredibly proud of Alex and Aidan for being recognized among some of the top scholars in the nation," JHS Principal Randy Oliver said in a statement. "Our class of '24 seniors are truly a talented bunch of students, and it's wonderful to see the start of great successes to come. We wish these two the best of luck in the next phase of their applications."

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is among the top corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship programs in the U.S. With the addition of the 2024 class, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have provided more than 6,900 students nationwide with over $84 million in scholarships over the course of 36 years.
