Jill Biden is remembering Toby Keith following the country music star’s death from stomach cancer.

The 62-year-old “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)” singer died Monday, a statement on his Facebook page announced.

“He fought with grace and courage,” the statement said of Keith, who publicly revealed his stomach cancer diagnosis in 2022. Keith, who sometimes courted political controversy, was awarded the National Medal of the Arts by then-President Trump in 2021.

In a Tuesday message on X, formerly known as Twitter, the first lady gave a nod to the late musician.

“Cancer truly touches us all,” Biden said. “Rest in peace, Toby Keith.”

President Biden and the first lady reignited the Cancer Moonshot in 2022, with the aim of reducing the cancer death rate in the United States and improving the quality of life for survivors of the disease and their caregivers.

Biden’s son, Beau, died of glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer, in 2015 at the age of 46.

Last year, Jill Biden underwent Mohs surgery to remove two cancerous skin lesions. The president also had a cancerous lesion removed from his chest during a 2023 annual physical exam.
