Jill Carter resigns from Missouri Freedom Caucus

JOPLIN, Mo. — Missouri state Senator, Jill Carter who represents Jasper and Newton Counties, resigns from the Missouri Freedom Caucus.

The Freedom Caucus represents the most conservative and far right Republicans in the legislature.

Over the last week, members of the caucus blocked a vote on a hospital and healthcare provider tax bill.

The bill funds much of Missouri’s Medicaid costs.

Carter, who did not participate in the blockade, says her decision was made in the best interest of her constituents.

Carter says she didn’t make the decision lightly.

Carter said she could, “…no longer in good conscience, be part of behaviors, and actions behind the scenes that defames grassroots, and violates the needs of my constituents.”
