Jill Scott tapped as new voice for Nationwide’s latest ‘On Your Side’ campaign

The infectious Nationwide insurance company jingle is getting a touch of neo-soul for its latest version.

Grammy Award winner Jill Scott is the new voice behind the iconic slogan, bringing a fresh take on the familiar campaign that has become trendy in recent years thanks to prior popular artists who bellowed “Nationwide is on your side.”

“Everybody knows it. EVERYBODY! My mother, my son, my family, my friends…everybody knows this song,” the Philadelphia-born vocal powerhouse said. “It just has such a great energy to it.”

For her take, Scott created new songs building off the “Nationwide is on your side” seven notes to demonstrate the many ways the Columbus, Ohio-headquartered company protects its customers with insurance products.

“Jill is known for producing R&B and soul albums filled with emotion,” Nationwide’s marketing chief Ramon Jones said with the announcement. “She will bring a new level of feeling to these commercials.”

“Jill is a great ambassador for our brand, and we can’t wait to share with the country the incredible songs she’s put together,” he added.

Scott — who’s also an actress with credits including “Black Lightning,” “First Wives Club” reboot and Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married” films — joins a running list of prior artists featured in Nationwide’s advertising like gospel vocalist Tori Kelly, pop singer Rachel Platten, country crooner Brad Paisley and recent double Academy Award nominee Leslie Odom Jr.

“Care and consideration - those are traits the company and I share,” the “Hate On Me” singer added. “I’m proud to team up with Nationwide to create songs that will demonstrate Nationwide’s passion for protecting their customers.”

Scott kicked off 2020 with a tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of her breakthrough debut opus “Who Is Jill Scott? [Words And Sounds Volume 1].”

The Temple University alum initially embarked on a career as a spoken word artist during the 1990s before being discovered by members of the world renown Philadelphia hip hop collective The Roots. Her first shot at success was as a co-writer of the Grammy winning song, “You Got Me” in 1999.

During that era, the platinum-selling artist stood at the forefront of the neo-soul (now considered modern soul) genre, alongside acts such as D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Maxwell and Musiq Soulchild.

The company rolled out Scott’s new “On Your Side Soundtracks” advertising creative on broadcast, social media, and digital platforms this week.
