The shooting killed 36-year-old Vincent Flowers and injured Freeman's ex, a woman in her 30s. The two were shot at about 1:20 one morning in June 2020 at a residence in Wilmington, according to court documents.

According to prosecutors, Freeman was living in Wilmington at the time and suspected his ex was with another "romantic partner." Upon encountering the woman, he shot her in a hallway. She fled and Freeman fatally shot Flowers multiple times.

The presiding judge sentenced Freeman to two life sentences plus 19 years.
