Jim Carrey, Idris Elba star in Sonic the Hedgehog sequel

STORY: The first film was released theatrically in February 2020 in the US and other territories. However, its global theatrical release was cut short by lockdowns caused by the pandemic.

Jim Carrey, who plays Sonic's nemesis Dr. Robotnik and attended the Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday (April 5), said "Let me just say, the thing that's different is they can actually see it in a theater. You know, that's kind of a wonderful thing when I think about it. I'm looking forward to being in a room full of people. You know, it's kind of the most important thing happening here, isn't it?"

When the trailer was released for the first film, fans of the games were horrified by the character design of Sonic, calling it "creepy". Paramount Pictures listened to the fans and redesigned the character before the film's release.
