Jim Carrey sends message to Ariana Grande after singer posts his quote on depression

Jim Carrey has responded to Ariana Grande after she posted one of his quotes about depression on Instagram.

The Thank U, Next singer uploaded the quote – in which Carrey associates the mental illness with “deep rest” – in an Instagram Story on Saturday, days after opening up about her own mental health struggles.

Grande posted the quote alongside a series of black-and-white snaps of the actor, explaining that she’d been a fan of his for years.

The Ace Ventura actor responded to Grande on Sunday on Twitter, saying he admired her “openness”, adding that he feels “blessed to have such a gifted admirer”.

Carrey pointed out that the concept of viewing depression as “deep rest” originates from his "teacher and friend”, Jeff Foster, who has authored books on spirituality.

Grande thanked Carrey for his message on Twitter, adding: “I don’t think u understand how much I adore u or what u mean to me.

Thank u for taking the time to share this w me. You are such an inspiration [sic].”

Grande also joked that she “can’t wait” to tattoo Carrey’s Twitter response on her forehead.

The exchange between the two A-list stars has sparked a flurry of excitement on Twitter, with each of their tweets garnering hundreds of thousands of likes, retweets and replies from fans.

“So proud of u and this just shows that everyone else is too,” wrote one person addressing Grande.

Another praised the conversation as “truly beautiful”.

Grande and Carrey’s Twitter exchange comes days after she told fans on Twitter that she was struggling with her mental wellbeing.

On 18 April, the 25-year-old, who recently performed at Coachella and is currently on her Sweetener world tour, told fans on Twitter that she felt “empty” and was struggling with her energy levels.

Grande, whose ex-boyfriend Mac Miller died in September, ended her engagement with Pete Davidson in October last year.

The singer has previously spoken out about her mental health struggles in the aftermath of the Manchester bombing, which occurred during one of her concerts in May 2017
