“When I weighed 307 pounds and squatting 525 pounds in the Super Heavy Weight Power Lifting Championships!”

Irsay’s former wife, Meg, told the Los Angeles Times in 1987 about a time in the mid-1980s when Jim was trying to put on weight for a lifting contest. He put on 60 pounds, to go from 220 to 280.

Irsay writes letter to Colts fans: 'I'm going to do whatever it takes' to win

“Jim ate everything on the table and anything else he could find in the house,” Meg said.

Irsay would wake up in the middle of the night, every night, to take a protein supplement.

According to the LA Times, Irsay was required to weigh at least 275 pounds for the contest. When he weighed in, he was six pounds shy.

“So I drank a gallon of water,” he said. “As you know, a gallon of water adds up to eight pounds. I just made weight.”
