Canal Winchester Schools Superintendent Jim Sotlar has resigned to become CEO of information technology agency Meta Solutions.

Jim Sotlar has resigned as Canal Winchester Schools superintendent to become CEO of Ohio-based META Solutions effective Aug. 1, the district announced in a letter to families. 

Sotlar notified the school board of his resignation June 24, the letter stated.

"Serving as the superintendent of Canal Winchester Local Schools for the last 10 years has been the highlight of my career," Sotlar said in the letter. "It is an honor to work with such a caring and dedicated team of professionals with the support of families and the community and to be trusted with the care and education of our community’s children."

"We would like to thank Mr. Sotlar for his service and dedication to Canal Winchester Schools during his time here and wish him the best on the next step of his journey," the board said in the letter.

The board plans to meet during a special meeting in the near future regarding "the best path forward" for selecting the district's next superintendent, the letter stated.

META Solutions is an information technology agency that focuses on technology and data infrastructure for school districts, according to its website. It retains a network of 169 member districts and 287 associate and co-op members throughout Ohio, and has offices in Columbus, Dayton, Athens, Marion and Piketon.

“The board listened to the input from our stakeholders," said META Solutions Board of Directors President Rebecca Jenkins in a statement. "Jim fits the profile of what staff, clients, and board members were looking for in our next leader and will bring extensive experience and skills that will move META Solutions forward.”
