Jimmies can't keep up in loss

The Jimmies overcame an early deficit to tie the game up at two but could not keep up from there in a 7-2 loss to the Central Methodist Eagles to finish up their first weekend of the spring season.

"These games were extremely important to get under our belt," Jimmies head coach Tom Hager said. "When you play really good competition you have a chance to learn a lot more about your team and I think we learned about what we can do offensively, defensively and on the mound. We can certainly take the fact that we played against some awfully good teams and know that we're capable of being a really good team ourselves."

The Eagles (7-7) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with two runs before the Jimmies' Kendall Yackley cut into it with a solo shot and Payton Smith hit a single to score Chase Buke and tie the game up at two. The Jimmies (7-2) had a chance to push the lead out further in the frame but Jordan Singleton grounded out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

The Eagles retook the lead with a two-run third before putting the game away with a three-run fifth to make it 7-2.

The Jimmies return to the diamond on March 3 with the team they will face and the time they will play still to be determined.
