Jimmies baseball struggles in doubleheader sweep against Doane

Apr. 8—ORANGE CITY, Iowa. — The University of Jamestown's pitching continued to struggle as they lost 12-2 in the first game of the doubleheader against Doane University at Northwestern College's Baseball Diamond.

The Jimmies opened the scoring in the second inning thanks to a Ben Patton RBI double to make it 1-0. The Tigers took the lead in the third inning when Joe Osborn hit a two run homer run to push them in front 2-1. The Jimmies tied the game up in the fourth to make it 2-2. The Tigers retook the lead for good in the fifth when Osborn crushed another two run shot to push the lead out to 4-2. The Tigers added four more in the inning to take an 8-2 lead.

Osborn came up again in the sixth and hit another two-run shot to push the lead out to 10-2. Osborn finished the day going 3-for-4 with six RBIs.

The Jimmies took another early lead but could not keep it going again in a 11-6 loss to the Tigers in game two of the doubleheader.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a Nate Mensik two run shot. The Jimmies (17-15, 6-8) responded in the bottom of the first with a solo shot from Xander Orejudos. The Jimmies kept it going in the bottom of the second with a Triston Madison two run double to push the Jimmies in front 3-2. The Tigers (26-8, 12-4) responded with a four run top of the fourth to take a 6-3 lead. The Jimmies cut into it in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-4, where it would stay until the sixth when the Tigers put the game away with a two run sixth to push the lead out to 8-4.

The Jimmies used five pitchers in the loss and all of them gave up at least one run with the starter Elias Harris leading the way with five earned runs.

The Jimmies return to the diamond at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 14, when they face Dordt.
