Jimmies hoops finish 2022 with 74-54 win at Valley City State
Dec. 31—VALLEY CITY — The University of Jamestown went to Valley City State University for their last game of 2022 and used a 29-point fourth quarter to win 74-54 on Friday, Dec. 30, at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
The Jimmies (11-2) opened the scoring early in the first quarter on a Jailyn Martinson three to take a 3-2 lead. The Jimmies would keep the lead for the rest of the game, despite the Vikings (8-6) cutting into the lead as close as two early in the second quarter on a jumper by Jaycee Richter to cut the deficit to 18-16.
The Jimmies took a 46-41 lead into the fourth quarter and early in the fourth, Kate Cordes knocked down a three to make it 49-41. In the final quarter, the Jimmies were able to stretch the lead out to 24 points when Megan Oswald hit a jumper to make it 71-47.
In the final quarter, the Jimmies shot 10-for-20 and 3-for-4 from three-point range. In the final frame, the Vikings struggled shooting the ball, shooting 4-for-16 from the field and 3-for-6 from three-point range.
In total, the Jimmies shot 38% from the field and 46% from three, while the Vikings shot 34% from the field and 16% from three.
The Jimmies are back in action at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, when they host Morningside University.
