Jimmies men's hoops do enough in 63-60 win at Dordt

Jan. 8—JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown looked to bounce back after suffering only their third loss of the season and they did just that, beating Dordt University 93-90 on Saturday, Jan. 7, at the DeWitt Gymnasium.

The Jimmies (13-3, 5-3) sprinted out of the gates to an 11-2 lead before the Defenders clawed back into it at 29-28. But a Cooper Olson jumper pushed the Jimmies' lead out to 31-28, starting a run that saw the Jimmies go up by as much as nine points over the last eight and a half minutes of the first half.

The Jimmies' second-half struggles continued for a second consecutive night as they missed their first three-point attempt on their way to shooting 4-for-15 from long range. The Defenders (14-3, 6-3) fought back in the second half cutting the deficit to one point at 69-68 with 10:28 to go in game. The Jimmies responded with a Reid Gastner three to push the lead out to 72-68. A few minutes later though the Defenders would keep the pressure up and a Luke Rankin layup with 5:34 to go in the game gave the home team the lead at 80-78. With 4:48 to go in the game, the Jimmies' Marc Kjos gave his team the lead back on a three to make it an 83-82 game.

With 50 seconds to go and the game knotted up at 87, the Jimmies' Will Cordes hit a jumper to push his team in front 89-87.

The Jimmies are back in action at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, when they host Briar Cliff.
