Jimmies pull off upset against No.4-ranked Oregon Tech 2-1

Sep. 3—PENDELTON, Or. — The University of Jamestown has put an end to its four-game losing streak dating back to last season in a big way. The Jimmies got a 2-1 win over the No. 4-ranked Oregon Institute of Technology Owls on Friday, Sept. 2. The game was delayed from its original start time of 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and moved from the neutral site location in La Grande, Oregon to Pendelton because of poor air quality due to wildfires on the Oregon-California border.

The teams traded early chances with the Jimmies' Cassandra Diaz having a shot saved four and a half minutes into the game. The Jimmies (1-2) would break through just over 19 minutes into the game when Gaby Sarkis took a shot that found its way past the goalie Sydni Nakamura to make it 1-0. Despite chances from both sides, the score would stay that way until the 57th minute when the Owls (0-1-1) got a free kick and Ashley Hart converted to tie the game up at one.

The game appeared to be heading towards ending in a tie before the Jimmies Eve Hoppe slotted one home to give the Jimmies the 2-1 lead in the 83rd minute. The Owls had one last chance in the 88th minute but Maddie Miller's header sailed wide of the net.

The win is the Jimmies' first win over a ranked opponent since they beat #18-ranked Briar Cliff on April 6, 2021.

The Jimmies managed to draw five corner kicks compared to the Owls one in the win. The Jimmies goalie Tea Pence made six saves in the win.

The Jimmies are back in action at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4, when they face Northwest University.
