Update: Former President Jimmy Carter was not seen at Monday's ceremonies. He is expected at Tuesday's tribute service.

Whether or not former President Jimmy Carter will attend memorial ceremonies Monday for his wife Rosalynn is yet to be determined.

"He wants to be here, and we'll see as the day goes on," said Paige Alexander, CEO of the Carter Center, on FOX 5 live broadcast just after 10 a.m. Monday. The Carter family motorcade arrived at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus around 10:25 a.m. before heading to a wreath-laying ceremony at Georgia Southwestern State University. Jimmy Carter was not shown on the FOX 5 live broadcast during the ceremony.

Beginning at 3 p.m., there will be a repose service at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum at the The Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta.

Rosalynn Carter, known for her humanitarian efforts and transformation of the role of first lady, died Sunday, Nov. 19 at their home in Plains, Georgia. She was 96.

Jimmy Carter, 99, has been in hospice care since February. Carter was diagnosed in 2015 with cancer — metastatic melanoma that had spread to his liver and brain. After treatment, Carter announced his medical scans showed no signs of cancer.

In 2019, Carter suffered injuries from multiple falls, including a broken hip, a fractured pelvis and had a procedure to relive pressure to his brain caused by bleeding.

In February, The Carter Center announced after a series of hospital stays that Carter, "decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention."
