Jimmy Moore Christmas Party aids more than 350 kids

Dec. 22—This year's Jimmy Moore Christmas Party was able to help more than 350 area needy children have a better Christmas.

"It was absolutely a success," Nancy Mangilo-Bittner, organizer of the event, said. "We served over 105 families and about 360 kids."

The party, which required pre-registration, was held Dec. 16 at St. Brigid's Social Hall, 383 Arch St., Meadville.

Each family received gifts for the kids, plus mittens, gloves, fruit, a box of candy and a $50 gift card to Valesky's Supermarket for Christmas dinner supplies, Mangilo-Bittner said. There also was a visit from Santa Claus for the children.

"The community once again was very generous," she said. "We had a lot of individuals, community groups and companies donating."

About 20 volunteers — from high school age to retirees — were on hand at the party to help distribute the items to the children and their families, too, Mangilo-Bittner said.
