Jimmy Osmond, known for being a part of The Osmonds and a successful solo singer, has suffered a stroke at the age of 55.

He was playing Captain Hook in a pantomime of Peter Pan at the Birmingham Hippodrome when he began to feel unwell, but managed to 'push through' the performance.

Osmond's spokesperson is quoted as saying: "On the evening of Thursday December 27th after pushing through the evening’s performance of Peter Pan at Birmingham Hippodrome, Jimmy Osmond was driven straight to hospital and diagnosed with a stroke.

"He is grateful for all the well wishes and will be taking time out in the New Year.”

Darren Day has been confirmed to be taking over the role in the production from later this week.

Birmingham Hippodrome’s Artistic Director and Chief Executive Fiona Allan said: “Everyone here at Birmingham Hippodrome has been deeply saddened to hear of Jimmy’s sudden illness.

"Jimmy loved being a part of the Hippodrome’s well-renowned panto, and his portrayal of Captain Hook was both dastardly and heartwarming.

"He won the adoration not just of our audiences, but also of all our staff – we all send Jimmy and his family very best wishes for a speedy recovery.”

Known as 'Little' Jimmy, he is the youngest member of the Osmond family and, at age 9, became the youngest person to have a UK number one single with 'Long Haired Lover from Liverpool' in 1972.

The Osmonds – Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay and Donny – gained their highest profile in the early 1970s with hits including 'Crazy Horses' and 'Love Me For a Reason'.

Jimmy has also starred in reality TV shows like I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2005 and Celebrity MasterChef in 2016.
