Here’s when Jive Turkey Hut is opening in Charlotte. Owner to debut 2 breweries next

A restaurant that specializes in turkey leg and daiquiris is ready to make its Charlotte debut. And the restaurant’s co-owner has plans to open two breweries next.

Jive Turkey Hut will open at 2 p.m. Dec. 21 at 3701 Statesville Ave., co-owner Clarence Boston, a longtime business owner in Charlotte and Atlanta, told The Charlotte Observer. The fast-casual restaurant had been expected to open by Thanksgiving, the Observer previously reported.

Boston also is co-owner of two breweries that had expected to open by the end of the year.

Another Brewery at 2509 N. Davidson St. in Davidson had anticipated opening last month. However, Boston said they’re still awaiting Internet installation and expect to open in early January.

Hippin’ Hops Brewery & Distillery at 650 E. Brooklyn Village Ave. in the former D9 Brewing Co. space in uptown had expected to open this month. However because of permitting delays, the opening is likely in February or early March, Boston said. D9 has breweries in Huntersville and Hendersonville.

Here’s what to know about all three business:

About Jive Turkey Hut

Jive Turkey Hut, co-owned by James Pettis, is in the former 700-square-foot Bodrick’s Bar-B-Q space, which closed in 2015 after over 15 years in business.

The restaurant and bar is a take on the trendsetting Turkey Leg Hut in Houston, founded in 2015.

In Charlotte, expect smoked turkey legs, “just short of a foot long,” stuffed with shrimp Alfredo, mac and cheese, and collard greens. Prices will range from $14.99 to $30 for lobster or étouffée stuffed.

Other turkey dishes include smoked wings and grilled turkey burgers.

The menu has appetizers such as Thanksgiving egg rolls and salmon bites, entrees including Cajun shrimp or salmon and grits, salmon burgers and grilled or fried chicken sandwich.

There also will be a full bar, specializing in frozen daiquiris. Rotating eight kinds of daiquiris, flavors include rum punch, mojitos and margaritas.

Prices will range from $8 to $22.

About Another Brewery

Another Brewery — co-owned by Charlotte bar owner Orlando Botero — plays off the growing number of Charlotte breweries, now totaling over 75.

The 4,000-square-foot space with a 500-square-foot patio will include a seven-barrel system with 15-barrel fermenters able to produce about 3,000 barrels of beer a year.

Another brewery will have a full-service bar and food menu with oysters, shrimp and salmon, as well as baked wings, burgers and sandwiches.

About Hippin’ Hops Brewery & Distillery

The Charlotte brewery will be Hippin’ Hops’ third location.

Two years ago, Boston sold Boston’s Mortuary funeral home on Statesville Avenue, as well as his ownership interests in Charlotte bars Firehouse Bar & Lounge in uptown and Recess in Plaza Midwood. He and wife Donnica moved to Atlanta and opened the first Black-owned brewery in Georgia — Hippin’ Hops Brewery & Oyster Bar. The brewery now has two Atlanta locations and a brewing facility in Stone Mountain, Georgia

Hippin’ Hops Charlotte taproom is about 900 square feet, and the 3,000-square-foot outside area that will be used for live music. A second building on site will be used for making beer and liquor.

Hippin’ Hops will have a five-barrel system with 10-barrel fermenters that can produce about 1,800 barrels of beer a year.

Hippin’ Hops Charlotte also will have a 500-gallon still for making liquors including vodka, rum and gin. Hippin’ Hops spirits, like Boston Thomas Whiskey and Noire Cognac, are available at ABC stores in the Charlotte region.
