Cincinnati native J.J. Wolf defeated fellow American Michael Mmoh, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2, in third-round men's singles action at the 2023 Australian Open to reach the round of 16 at a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career.

Wolf, a former Cincinnati Country Day School and Ohio State Buckeyes standout, will next face fellow American Ben Shelton, who won his third-round match in straight sets against Australian Alexei Popyrin. Shelton was the 2022 NCAA singles champion at Florida.

Wolf upset No. 23 Diego Schwartzman in straight sets in the second round. He defeated Jordan Thompson in the first round.

The unseeded Wolf has reached the third round of the U.S. Open twice - in 2020 and 2022.

With his third win in Melbourne, Wolf joined No. 29 Sebastian Korda and unseeded Tommy Paul among Americans to reach the fourth round.
