Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger made headlines on Monday, announcing their engagement after less than a year together. And although people were immediately excited about the whirlwind romance being taken to the next level, fans were also taken aback by the 29-year-old’s new ring.
In a photo posted to Pratt’s Instagram, Schwarzenegger’s rock is on full display, and got even more camera time as she stepped out for errands the following day. But the exciting moment and gorgeous stone — estimated to be worth nearly $400,000, according to diamond expert Josh Marion — likely triggered some nostalgia over the impressive rings that we’ve loved, and lost, through a number of unsuccessful Hollywood relationships.
Heidi Klum and Seal
The singer proposed to the model in 2004, after meeting the year prior. In January 2012, reports of their pending divorce started to surface and the yellow diamond ring disappeared.
Paris Hilton and Paris Latsis
The couple got engaged in 2005 after eight months of dating. Latsis reportedly gave Hilton 15 rings to choose from. However, the rock that she picked wasn’t on her finger for long as the engagement was called off just four months later.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
It wasn’t until nearly seven years into their relationship that the two became engaged in 2012, and Jolie began to rock a reported $1 million engagement ring. In August 2016, however, the longterm couple decided to call it quits.
Jennifer Lopez from Marc Anthony
One of the saddest losses in their 2011 separation was Lopez’s 8.5-carat ring worth an estimated $4 million. Lopez reportedly sold it after their relationship ended.
Hilary Duff from Mike Comrie
The hockey player gave Duff a 4.5-carat diamond estimated at $300,000 when he proposed in Maui in 2010. After having a son together, the couple filed for divorce in 2015.
Kim Kardashian from Kris Humphries
The unlikely pair got engaged in 2011 with a 20.5-carat ring. Hopefully, the high cost was worth their infamously short 72-day marriage.
Jen Aniston and Justin Theroux
Anniston and Theroux first met in 2007, although they didn’t start dating until 2011. Theroux proposed in 2012 with an 8-carat Peter Meksian ring worth an estimated $500,000. They secretly married and looked happy as can be in 2015, but ultimately split up in early 2018.
Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac
The couple went public with their relationship in 2012 before getting engaged the following year. They got secretly got married in 2014 before ultimately getting a divorce in 2017.
Mariah Carey and James Packer
The businessman put a 35-carat diamond ring worth $2.1 million on Carey’s finger in 2016, before calling it off nine months later. The singer reportedly went on to sell the ring following the breakup.
Paris Hilton and Chris Zylka
Hilton and Zylka made headlines when they got engaged with a $2 million ring at the end of 2017. Unfortunately, they never made it down the aisle. They announced their breakup after their November 2018 wedding date had already passed.
Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson
The singer and comedian had a whirlwind romance in 2018, getting engaged with a 3-carat $100,000 ring just weeks into their summer fling. However, the engagement only lasted through early fall before being called off in October.
Cardi B and Offset
The Migos rapper famously presented Cardi with a $500,000 teardrop-shaped diamond in October 2017, although they had secretly been married the month before. Just over one year later, though, the epic ring disappeared from Cardi’s finger as she announced their split.
