This year's Oshkosh Area Job Fair will be held in September at Sunnyview Exposition Center. Organizers are seeking food truck vendors to participate.

OSHKOSH - The annual Oshkosh Area Job Fair is scheduled for 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at Sunnyview Exposition Center, 500 E. County Y, Oshkosh.

Thanks to a grant from New North, a meal will be offered to job seekers this year between 4 and 7 p.m.

Job seekers who visit at least five participating company booths will be eligible to receive $15 worth of food tokens to be used at the food trucks at the fair.

“We always get well over 100 employers at this annual job fair and usually do great with job seekers,” said Anthony Snyder, Fox Valley Workforce Development Board CEO. “What we need now are a wide variety of food trucks to join us.”

DAV seminar helps veterans get their benefits

Disabled American Veterans will offer an informational seminar for veterans about services and benefits they have earned.

The seminar will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 16 at Marine Corps League Club, 4715 Sherman Road.

The seminar is free. Veterans attending should take identification, Social Security number and any other pertinent documentation regarding military service. DAV membership is not required.

Red Cross seeks to replenish blood supply; local drives set

The American Red Cross is still struggling to keep hospitals stocked with blood products. Urgent needs include type O negative, type O positive, type B negative and type A negative blood donors, as well as platelet donors.

A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required.

Individuals who are 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in general good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Local upcoming blood drives include the following:

  • Aug. 16: noon to 5 p.m., Best Western Hotel & Conference Center, 1000 Cameron Way, Neenah;

  • Aug. 22: 11:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., Knights of Columbus, 746 Third St., Menasha; and

  • Aug. 24: 2 to 6 p.m., Calvary Lutheran Church, 2580 W. Ninth Ave., Oshkosh.

Oshkosh library hosts family concert Aug. 19

Oshkosh Public Library programs this week include a book club and a live concert.

The Banned Book Club for adults will meet at 5 p.m. Aug. 15 at Planet Perk, 100 City Center C. Led by librarian Nancy Bell, this month’s discussion will be on “Fun Home” by Alison Bechdel.

Aug. 19, Sundae + Mr. Goessl will perform an all-ages concert at 11 a.m. The free concert will be outdoors between the lions. Seating will be available on the steps, or take a blanket or chair.

U.S. Rep. Grothman hosts town hall in Oshkosh

U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, a Republican who represents Wisconsin's Sixth Congressional District, will hold a town hall meeting Aug. 23 in Oshkosh.

The session will run 11 a.m. to noon at Utica Town Hall, 1730 County FF.

Winnebago Audubon hosts seminar on preventing bird-window collisions

Starting in September, millions of songbirds will fly south for the first time, and Winnebago Audubon is asking residents to help prevent them from colliding with their windows.

Two free webinars will show how residents can fix their home windows to prevent collisions. The seminars will be at noon and 7 p.m. Aug. 23, and will be presented by Brenna Marsicek, Madison Audubon.

Winnebago Audubon will host a follow-up to the webinar at 3 p.m. Aug. 27 in the Community Room at the Oshkosh Food Co-op, 155 Jackson St. Attendees can view samples of the options that help prevent bird-window collisions, ask questions and have a chance to win window collision tape kits.

Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra makes changes for 82nd season

As part of its community engagement initiative for its 82nd season, the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra will invite members of the community to perform in the orchestra. This was the orchestra’s model decades ago.

A new partnership with University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh has been established to better serve the community. Dylan T. Chmura-Moore has been appointed the new music director of OSO.
