Job fairs to be held Saturday at 34 CT Stop & Shop stores. What to know.

Thirty-four of Stop & Shop’s Connecticut stores will host a one-day, all-store career fair from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23.

On-the-Spot Stop & Shop interviews will be held for all store roles, shifts and departments, according to the company.

In other Connecticut job news, Amazon said this week that it plans hire 5,000 employees in Connecticut to “help deliver” for the holidays.

The company said there are full-time, seasonal, and part-time roles “available across Amazon’s operations and seasonal employees will have an opportunity to transition to full-time positions.”

At a job fair at Hartford’s Dunkin’ Park this month, Gov. Ned Lamont made a pitch to job seekers to fill state government positions. Across the stadium, Hartford officials were hoping to lure candidates to the city. Both are riddled with vacancies as the state and the country continue to face staffing shortages.

“Come to state government where the rubber meets the road and you’re making a difference every day,” Lamont said as he pitched the jobs. “We need engineers, we need construction workers, we need teachers. This is a great time to be a young person. Take advantage of it right here in the great state of Connecticut.”

Interviews for the Stop & Shop jobs will be held to fill 300 permanent, part-time open e-commerce and store roles, with starting rates of $15 an hour, including union positions in the bakery, deli, grocery, seafood, produce, and pharmacy departments, according to the company.

There are also unionized openings on the overnight crew, as well as for cashiers, porters, baggers, home shoppers, and drivers.

The one day hiring event will take place at 34 stores across Fairfield, New Haven, and Litchfield counties. Call your local Stop and Shop to see if they will hold a job fair.

“Many members of Stop & Shop’s leadership team started as part-time associates. The roles we offer at Stop & Shop are more than jobs, they are growth opportunities,” Michelle Castellana, human resource lead for Stop & Shop said in a statement.

“We hope that anyone who is interested in a career in an exciting work environment focused on helping their community will join us on the Saturday, September” 23, she said.

The open, part-time positions provide up to 28 hours of work each week. Cashiers and baggers must be at least 16 years old. All other positions require applicants to be 18 years of age or older.
