CARLETON – The Health and Wealth Expo was held recently at Airport High School.

The expo was organized by AHS marketing students, DECA students and high school counselors.

Teresa Millican, Airport’s marketing teacher, was the staff leader of the event.

The goal was to focus on helping students with their healthy summer plans and obtaining employment. Many different tables set up in the lobby, all focused on this one goal.

The following business attended and talked about their hiring practices and workplace: Huron Clinton-Metroparks, Expeditors, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, Hoppert Farms, Ben Lee Trailor, Steel Tool and Engineering, StateWide Boring, LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, YMCA and Family Medical Center.

Many of the businesses are currently looking for help and are hiring, so there was also an interview portion of the event offered to those interested. Over 25 interviews were held on site that day and many more were organized for the future.

The Taco Bell table was a huge hit for the students. Taco Bell talked about job opportunities at its Monroe, Flat Rock and Woodhaven locations.

For the health side of the expo there were tables focused on healthy recipes, motivating song playlists, summer bucket lists, the importance of vitamin D, biking trails, golf courses, summer sleep schedules, relaxing color stations and various events happening in Monroe County over the summer. Each of these tables were created by Airport High School marketing students who, in groups, decided what would be important to share for the students before they head into summer break.

The counselors at the high school also partnered with the students to help set up the times for interviews and make sure that those students had the appropriate business attire and transcripts that were needed.
