Jodie Turner-Smith Agrees 'Anytime A Black Woman Is Enjoying Herself, It Is Something To Be Celebrated'

Queen and Slim star Jodie Turner-Smith and her husband appeared at the 2022 Met Gala on Monday and had a lot to celebrate, Yahoo reports.

The actress attended the event and decided to embrace the moment’s joy and celebrate “everything out of this” experience, including preparation.

“I think anytime a Black woman is enjoying herself, it is something to be celebrated. It is saying like the norm and whatever the status quo is, I’m allowed to be happy and I’m gonna be happy,” Turner-Smith said, according to Yahoo.

The actor’s husband, Joshua Jackson, said that enjoying the leisures of life, including the Met Gala, since the COVID-19 pandemic has been a way to challenge norms.

He added that the event served as another opportunity to uplift his wife.

“Every time I get to attend an event with my beautiful wife, it’s a chance for me to celebrate her,” he said, according to Vanity Fair.

Jackson wore a custom Gucci black coat with tails along with a gray double-breasted vest, a white evening shirt and pinstripe pants, The New York Times reports.

Despite the preparation for the gala, Smith acknowledged the event as being an opportunity to prioritize self-care.

“I’ve been at pilates every day, doing my lymphatic drainage massages and my facials, just like taking care of self,” Turner-Smith said, adding that her hectic schedule doesn’t lend itself to much self-pampering time.

“It’s actually really nice because in our business this is what people get to see, right, they get to see us, like, celebrating each other and celebrating design and art and fashion and ‘oh, it’s just one big party and premieres,’ but the reality is it’s really hard on your body. You don’t get a lot of sleep, you have all these first-world problems, but it’s a lot of stress and strain and, you know, when you fly around everywhere, like what that does to your body, so we often don’t take care of ourselves. … So this has actually been a really fun little excuse to be like, ‘Oh, I need to take care of my body right now,'” she said.

Jackson, 43, has attended the Met Gala before, but it was Turner-Smith’s first time. The 35-year-old British-Jamaican actress wore a Gucci silver flapper-style ensemble, according to Vogue.
