Joe Alwyn Thinks It's 'Normal' to Be Private About His Relationship with Taylor Swift

Joe Alwyn isn’t sweating any commentary about his relationship with global superstar Taylor Swift.

The two have been dating for two years, though fans didn’t find out about their relationship until months after they started seeing each other.

Alwyn, 27, and Swift, 29, have since kept up this level of privacy and have never spoken publicly about their love, with Alwyn politely shooting down questions about her in interviews.

The actor says that although this has earned the two the label of being a very private couple, he doesn’t think it’s that weird to keep the personal lives out of the spotlight.

“I don’t think more than anyone else,” he said in a new interview with Mr. Porter about fighting for his privacy amid major public interest. “I don’t think anyone you meet on the streets would just spill their guts out to you, therefore why should I? And then that is defined as being ‘strangely private’. Fine. But I don’t think it is. I think it’s normal.”

Alwyn has offered up the same sentiment in previous articles when asked about Swift, and explained in September why it’s not something he’s willing to get into.

“I understand people’s curiosity in the world we live in, about people’s private lives. Well, I don’t understand it, but I know it exists,” said Alwyn in an interview with Total Film. “For me, I just don’t feel it’s something I want to offer up to be picked apart by people who don’t know about it, and it’s just not theirs to have.”

The pair haven’t been shy about stepping out together, and have recently been spotted out and about more.

In late August 2018, the stars were photographed holding hands on a rare public outing in London just one month after they retreated to Turks and Caicos for a luxurious vacation.

“She seems to be in a great place both career and love wise,” a source previously told PEOPLE about the 29-year-old Grammy winner. “Joe is just an amazing boyfriend. He is very supportive. Taylor adores his family. She’s in a very good place.”
