Tom Brady’s “retirement” lasted all of 41 days, as the legendary NFL quarterback is back for a 23rd season, his third with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The GOAT’s future was a huge topic of conversation after the end of the 2021 NFL season, and Brady’s announcement that he would indeed be hanging up the cleats was met with the expected highlight montages and tributes to his incredible career.

Brady never filed any official paperwork for his retirement, and announced just before free agency that he would be returning for another year with the Bucs.

Everyone has their theories on why Brady made the initial decision to retire, then made an about-face a little more than a month later, including Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow:

Like many others, Burrow didn’t believe for a moment that Brady was actually done playing, remarking that he was simply still too dominant to walk away from the game.

This year might be Brady’s last ride, though, and it will include a nationally televised matchup against Burrow and the Bengals in Tampa this December.
