Joe Gould announces candidacy for Beltrami County District 2

May 25—BEMIDJI — Joe Gould has entered the race to vie for a chance to represent District 2 on the Beltrami County Board of Commissioners.

A social studies teacher in the Cass Lake-Bena school system, Gould graduated from BSU in 2010 and has been an active member of the Bemidji area community.

"As your county commissioner I will listen equally to homeowners, renters and our youth, and always put the needs of our citizens first," Gould said.

Gould currently serves on the Bemidji Area Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors as board treasurer and is also a member of the Greater Bemidji Area Joint Planning Commission.

In the past, Gould has worked as a staff person for the House Education Finance Committee, chaired a homeowner's association, run a small consulting business and obtained a master's degree in public administration.

Among his priorities, if elected, Gould listed children's mental health, addressing homelessness, and supporting veterans and small businesses.

Gould previously ran for the

Ward 1 position on the Bemidji City Council in 2020

but lost 408-476 to Audrey Thayer after she received 53.66% of the votes.

Beltrami County's District 2 is currently represented by incumbent

Reed Olson, who is running for the Minnesota House, District 2A.

The filing period for county offices is open through 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31.
