Joel Embiid, Seth Curry express frustration with officiating after win

The Philadelphia 76ers were able to battle their way to a 104-99 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday to keep their season alive. It was an impressive showing for a team that had just blown huge leads in both Game 4 and Game 5 and the Sixers were able to fight through all of that in order to force a Game 7.
This win did come with some bumps and bruises along the way. There was a lot of physical play on both sides in this one and it was apparent that there would be a lot of chippiness from the jump.
Tobias Harris and Ben Simmons were called for two fouls each in the first quarter and they had to come off the floor early. Joel Embiid also picked up a couple of early fouls and he was not happy with the officiating after the win.
“I told them they have to call it both ways,” said Embiid. “We had a bunch of guys, whether it was Ben or Tobias, in foul trouble. I just felt like it wasn’t called both ways, especially because of the minimal contact that their point guard gets.”
Embiid was referring to Hawks star Trae Young who historically gets a lot of fouls to go his way, but he only attempted five free throws on Friday. The Sixers did not get a free-throw attempt from a starter until the fourth quarter, but Young did not get too many calls to go his way in this one.
“When it comes to us, we don’t get the same thing,” Embiid added. “I just want it called both ways. If we’re gonna call nothing on their point guard, they call the same thing on me when I get touched.”
The final foul tally on Friday was 24 fouls for the Sixers and 22 for the Hawks. While Embiid is voicing his frustrations over his own personal calls, it’s not like the Sixers were called for much more fouls than Atlanta was.
Seth Curry did take a few bumps from the Hawks as he was rising up for shots and he also voiced a little frustration on his end as he did not receive an explanation for the no-calls.
“They’re not explaining nothing,” said Curry. “I would love an explanation and get the same calls on both ends, but they’re not explaining nothing. Just try to play through contact as much as possible. Sometimes you got to play through a lot of adversity to get a win and that’s what we did as a team tonight.”
The Sixers will now head home to host these Hawks in a winner-take-all Game 7 at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday.
