Reds first baseman Joey Votto read the replies to his Instagram post, and he offered heartfelt gratitude to a Boston Red Sox fan who said they drove five hours to watch him play last week at Fenway Park.

Votto's post Wednesday was of his first baseball photo - 30 years since the first time he played organized baseball, he said.

Among replies was this from @dka413:

Just saw you last week banging one off the wall in Fenway. I am a Sox fan, but you are the reason I drove 5 hrs with gas at 4.95 per gallon. One of the very best hitters I’ve ever seen

Votto's reply:

Seriously, for many of us players comments like this mean a lot. Thank you for sharing and for making the trip up to watch the game.

Last week, Votto shared photos from when he signed with the Reds 20 years ago.

The Enquirer's Bobby Nightengale reported Wednesday that Votto said he's confident he "can have as hot of a stretch" as he's had in 16 MLB seasons - all with Cincinnati.
