John Boyega Admits He Felt ‘Iffy’ About ‘The Last Jedi’

From Men's Health

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is just over a week away, and after the divisive The Last Jedi, all eyes are on director J.J. Abrams to see if he can make a film that wraps up the nine-episode saga while pleasing the majority of the fans (while being less of a retread than The Force Awakens).

Finn actor John Boyega has been talking about the films, and how they've changed his life, to Hypebeast, and has now admitted that he felt a bit uneasy about Rian Johnson's entry (which perhaps isn't surprising, seeing as his character got lumped with the infamous 'casino planet' plot).

"The Force Awakens, I think, was the beginning of something quite solid," he said. "The Last Jedi, if I'm being honest, I'd say that was feeling a bit iffy for me.

"I didn't necessarily agree with a lot of the choices in that and that's something that [I] spoke to Mark [Hamill] a lot about and we had conversations about it. And it was hard for all of us, because we were separated."

Speaking about the sequel trilogy as a whole, the actor admitted that none of them do one particular thing as well as he'd like, stating: "I guess the original Star Wars films there was much more of a trio feel where it was essentially about Luke's journey, but Han and Leia there was a strong dynamic.

"I don't know how quickly we're going to be able to establish that long-term dynamic with [Episode] IX. But if it's exploring that dynamic, then that would be cool.

"I do feel even after three films still, we don't know them as much as we got to know Han, Luke, Leia. And maybe that's a great opportunity to get to know them a little bit more."

Despite having his own issues with the films, Boyega isn't here for people trying to start arguments with him over Star Wars and having a whinge when the actor bites back.

"I have a fan who hates the films, right?" he continues. "And he'll be rude directly to me and I'll be rude back and then they start crying like babies. Then they're like, 'Why are you attacking me?'

"And it's like, 'I thought we was on the same page. I thought we're just going at it. We're Star Wars fans, we're supposed to be heated about this.'"
