John Estrada denies new movie is political propaganda
13 Mar – John Estrada recently stressed that his new movie "The Last Interview: The Mayor Antonio Halili Story" is not in any way a political propaganda.
As reported on PSR, the actor, who portrays the titular character in the movie - which had a special screening at SM Cinema in Lipa City recently - stated that he was only doing his job as an actor in revealing the true life of the ill-fated Tanauan mayor, who was assassinated in July 2018 during a flag raising ceremony.
"This is a celebration of mayor Halili's life. It's not a political story, but a life story," he said, adding that it is also his first ever biopic.
As for allegations that it was political propaganda, he said, "News like that can't be avoided. But even before I did the movie, I told my producer and director that I wouldn't do the movie if it's propaganda."
Estrada also revealed that he made a lot of preparation for the role – including watching Halili's old interviews to study his mannerisms.
Asked if he himself is interested in politics, Estrada - who is friends with actor-politicians like Richard Gomez - said that such an idea never entered his mind.
The new movie co-stars Ara Mina, Mon Confiado, and Martin Escudero.
