After being released from an institution in June, John Hinckley Jr. has been getting booked in various cities across the U.S., but not for committing crimes.
Hinckley, who was institutionalized for 42 years for the 1981 attempted assassination of then-president Ronald Reagan, is currently on tour as an independent musician.
On Tuesday, Hinckley announced via his Twitter account that he is scheduled to perform a concert at downtown Athens bar and music venue The World Famous on Oct. 27. The World Famous confirmed with the Banner-Herald that the event had been in the works "for a few weeks" and is officially on the schedule.
I will be doing a show at The World Famous in Athens, Georgia on October 27. See you there!!

In October 2020, a federal court granted Hinckley permission to publicly showcase and market his music, which Hinckley began sharing via YouTube that December. With a nasally twang, Hinckley made solo acoustic covers by artists like Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley before posting videos of his own light-hearted compositions.
Hinckley's "Redemption Tour" has been off to a rough start since its launch earlier this summer, with concerts in New York, Connecticut and Virginia canceled after threats to the hosting venues despite tickets selling out at some locations.
"I will be doing a show at The World Famous in Athens, Georgia on October 27," read Hinckley's Aug. 23 tweet. "See you there!!"
