John Kerry says he is 'absolutely not' thinking about joining Democratic race
Former Secretary of State John Kerry reiterated Sunday night that he is not considering a run for president this year, saying an NBC News analyst who overheard him talking about what it would take for him to enter the Democratic primary did not get the full story.
Kerry has endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden in the primary, campaigning with him in Iowa and New Hampshire. NBC News reports that Kerry was overheard in a Des Moines hotel saying he might enter the race due to concerns over "the possibility of Bernie Sanders taking down the Democratic Party — down whole."
Kerry told NBC News this was a "complete and total misinterpretation based on overhearing only one side of a phone conversation," and he was listing the reasons why he "could not possibly" compete in the primary. Kerry, who was the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, tweeted that he is "proud to campaign with my good friend, Joe Biden, who is going to win the nomination, beat Trump, and make an outstanding president."
