John Legend says 'women were rightly concerned' after Donald Trump's election (exclusive)

John Legend caught up with AOL on the red carpet for Glamour's Women of the Year awards, where his wife, Chrissy Teigen, was honored for her pioneering influence.

On a night where leading ladies were celebrated for their impact and leadership, the "All Of Me" singer expressed his view on the record-breaking number of women elected to the House during the recent midterm elections.

"I think it's incredible. I think as soon as Donald Trump was elected, a lot of women were rightly concerned about the country's future and a lot of women stepped up and ran for office. People who have never considered running before had that blend of outrage and hope...and they translated that into action. I think it's an incredible thing and hopefully, we can elect even more," John Legend told AOL's Laura Galvan.

"We should be at the place where it's not a story that 20 or 30 percent of the house is women but it should be a normal thing that 50 percent of the House are women, and Senate as well," he added.

The 10-time Grammy-winner famously texted Kanye West this past April after Kanye went on a stint of pro-Trump rants. The rapper took to Twitter to share their intimate conversation (the tweet has now been deleted) in order to show that not everyone around him agrees with him.

"Hey it’s JL. I hope you’ll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump. You’re way too powerful and influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for. As you know, what you say really means something to your fans. They are loyal to you and respect your opinion,” wrote the “All of Me” crooner, 39. “So many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump’s policies cause, especially to people of color. Don’t let this be part of your legacy. You’re the greatest artist of our generation.”
